Brexit & Ireland

There is an expression in Greece: “You want the whole pie and the dog not to be hungry”. That’s exactly what Theresa May and the hardcore Brexiteers want! All the benefits of the single market and of being a full member of the EU and none of the obligations! Illusion? Utopia? Deceit? You name it.

That’s what happened this week. When Theresa May went to Brussels to agree about the NI-Ireland border and how this would work in the future without asking the permission of the ultra-right DUP and of course that part failed because DUP wants no deal for NI which is different to the rest of the UK. And the alternative is to offer special treatment to all parts of the UK, therefore something like the current deal the UK has with the EU. Therefore what’s the bloody difference with having Brexit at all? None. So it’s either a hard Brexit where everything goes into fuck all, no trade deals, no EU funding, no free market, custom duties to all products, etc. OR we have a ultra-soft Brexit where we have a similar -but definitely worse- agreement with the EU but we are not a formally member of the EU and of course we end up paying the divorce bill. Lose-lose any way you see it.

And in other news, today David Davies, the Brexit secretary, announce that “[…] the government has not assessed impact of Brexit for different sections of economy” and that “[…] ministers took decision to leave customs union without analysis of economic impact”. Source here
